Last-minute pivot from Fayetteville WV (rain) — we’re heading north instead. White Mountains, New Hampshire for the first half of the week, then crossing into Vermont for the back half. Some of the best motorcycle roads on the East Coast, all in one trip.

Itinerary

GPX tracks for the ride up and routes throughout the week are available in the Montco Riders community on Rever.

Sunday, May 24th

Depart day. Ride north and overnight at Heart of the Berkshires Motel in Pittsfield, MA — roughly halfway.

Two group rides are heading north, both KSU promptly at 9:00 AM:

  • Royersford — Wawa on Main Street
  • Horsham — Wawa across from the old Naval Air Station

Join either group, ride up with your own crew, or head up solo — but please let us know your plan so we can keep track. Email help@montcoriders.com or reply in the group chat.

Heads up: There are multiple bridges on the route north. All of them require E-ZPass or Toll by Mail — no cash lanes.

Monday, May 25th

Continue to Lincoln, NH in the White Mountains. Check in, shake off the highway miles. The Kancamagus Highway is right out your front door if you’ve got energy left.

Tuesday, May 26th

Full riding day in the White Mountains. See Ride Ideas below — there’s no shortage of options.

Wednesday, May 27th

Last full riding day in the White Mountains. Make the most of it.

Thursday, May 28th

Pack up and head to Williston, VT (near Burlington). Check in, explore the area.

Friday, May 29th

Full riding day based out of Williston. Burlington, Lake Champlain, and Route 100 through the Green Mountains are all within easy reach.

Saturday, May 30th

Head south and overnight at Studio 6 Fishkill, NY — one easy day from home.

Optional detour: Americade in Lake George, NY — The world’s largest multi-brand touring rally runs May 27–30, and Lake George sits right on your route south from Vermont (about 1 hour from Williston on I-87). You don’t need a pass to ride through town and soak up the scene. If you want expo access and demos, the Road Warrior pass is $115 at the gate. Worth a swing-through either way.

Sunday, May 31st

Final leg home.

White Mountains, NH

Kancamagus Highway (Route 112)

The must-ride of the White Mountains. 35 miles of NH-112 from Lincoln to Conway through White Mountain National Forest. Multiple overlooks, one proper hairpin on the eastern side. This is the one.

Bear Notch Road

A quiet, tree-canopied two-lane just off Route 112 — connects to US-302 at the north end. Low traffic, good curves, pull-outs with mountain views.

US-302 / Crawford Notch

Runs through Crawford Notch State Park with big mountain views, roadside waterfalls, and wide sweeping curves. Great complement to the Kanc.

Mount Washington Auto Road

Climbs from 1,527 ft to 6,288 ft — the highest peak in the Northeast. Average 11.6% grade. Challenging, exposed, and completely unforgettable. Allow a half day. You get a bumper sticker that says “This Car Climbed Mt. Washington” — except yours will say the bike did it.

Vermont

Route 100

Vermont’s backbone road — 146 miles through the Green Mountains from the Massachusetts border north through Stowe and beyond. Rolling farmland, small towns, covered bridges. Classic.

Stowe Area

Stowe sits at the foot of Mount Mansfield (Vermont’s highest peak) and has great riding in every direction — northeast toward the Northeast Kingdom, west into the Adirondacks, and south along Route 100.

Travel Log

Day 1 — Rainy Ride North (May 24)

The pivot from Fayetteville meant heading north into the rain, but nobody blinked. Rain gear on, spirits high.

Fuel stop on the rainy ride north

Night 1 — Heart of the Berkshires, Pittsfield MA (May 24–25)

Made it to Pittsfield. The whole crew rolled in and settled in for the night.

Day 2 — Pittsfield to Lincoln, NH (May 25)

Started off grey and wet leaving Pittsfield, but the skies cleared as the group pushed north. By the time we rolled into Lincoln it was full sunshine — right on schedule.

Day 3 — Mount Washington (May 26)

The one you don’t skip. The full group tackled the Mount Washington Auto Road — 6,288 ft, the highest peak in the Northeast. The lower half was bathed in sunshine, the summit was socked in with clouds and cold wind. Worth every foot of elevation.

The Afternoon Lesson

Later in the day, a road that looked perfectly fine on the map turned to loose gravel without warning — at a speed that was, let’s say, enthusiastic. Most riders kept the rubber side down. Not everyone was so lucky. The group rallied, a flatbed was called, and the day ended with everyone accounted for and in good spirits.

Day 4 — Last Day in the White Mountains (May 27)

A good day despite a morning of unexpected dirt roads — the White Mountains have a way of keeping you humble. The group found their way to The Foothills Restaurant for lunch, a groovy little spot with a genuinely welcoming crew. The evening wrapped up at the local steakhouse, where the lobsters didn’t stand a chance.

Day 5 — White Mountains to Williston, VT (May 28)

A travel day on paper, but the group still found plenty of good roads on the way west into Vermont. The evening ended at Casa Grande for Mexican — judging by the smiles, no complaints.

Dinner at Casa Grande — Williston VT

Day 6 — Vermont Riding Day (May 29)

A big loop out of Williston: north to the Canadian border, through South Pole NY, lunch in Lake Placid, and a Lake Champlain ferry crossing to cap it off. A little light rain through the day but nothing that slowed anyone down.
