twisties

This is a 10 day tour of the motorcycle holy land, the mountains of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. We’ll be riding fantastic iconic roads including The Tail of the Dragon, The Back of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway and Blue Ridge Parkway to name a few.

The trip will be based out of Tazewell, Virginia and the first and last days will be spent slabbing it over interstates to and from there. Those that want can trailer down but you’ll have to make your own accommodations to store the trailer.

Itinerary:

Saturday August 10th

Travel day from Royersford meetup point to Tazewell, VA. This will be a long day where we have approximately 500 miles to cover. We will be taking highways, primarily Rt 81. Alan will lead those bikers wishing to ride down. Some will opt to trailer their bikes down. Others will be taking an extra day, leaving Friday and meeting us down there.

Sunday August 11th

Ride day from Tazewell, VA to The Little Switzerland, NC area. This will be a 200-250 mile day. We’ll be looking to cover 2 great roads, Back of the Dragon and The Snake

Monday August 12th

Local ride day hitting a couple of area roads and back to the hotel. Roads we hope to cover this day are The Diamondback and Devil’s Whip.

Tuesday August 13th

This is a travel/ride day. We’ll be relocating to the Robbinsville, NC area today. We’ll start out heading west to Hot Springs then ride the Rattler/Gambler route down to Robinsville. Expect this to be a 150-200 mile day.

Wednesday August 14th

We’ll be in the Robbinsville area for 4 nights and will be exploring the area roads. We plan to see Deals Gap and ride the Tail of the Dragon one of the days.

Thursday August 15th

Rides this day are still being worked out. Don’t worry, you can’t swing a dead cat down there without hitting an amazing road to ride on like the Cherohala Skyway and the Blue Ridge Parkway

Friday August 16th

Perhaps we’ll ride as far south as Georgia on The Gauntlet

Saturday August 17th

Travel day back to Tazewell and the Fincastle, likely 250-300 miles this day.

Sunday August 18th

We’ll explore the Tazewell area a bit more. It’s not just about the Back of the Dragon, ya know. Alan and Carl have personally scouted a number of amazing roads in this area like The Widow Maker!

Monday August 19th

Travel day back home. Yup, another 500 miles of slabbin’ it. Some folks will grab their trailers in Tazewell and head home that way. Others may be taking an extra day to split up this trip. But some of us have to get back to work. ;-)
